Augmented Reality is here, big time.

Take a look at what BMW is doing with augmented reality. This changes everything.

When you watch the video above, it really makes you appreciate what technology can do, not only in industry, but everywhere. One of the most popular applications of augmented reality for the average consumer is for site-seeing. You can take a picture of a restaurant, and if they are using augmented reality, the restaurant’s menu will appear on your phone. If there is a specialty shop that is unique, the same technology applies. It will show you on your smartphone information about the business without having to go inside the building.

How important is wireless to you?

Recently, I had to take my Wife’s car into the dealership for a warranty issue. While I was there, I noticed that there was an Old Dutch Pancake house just across the road. Remembering that they had wireless, and I was hungry for breakfast, I scurried over to the restaurant as fast as my little legs could take me. As I don’t have an Iphone 4 yet, I was smart enough to bring my Ipod touch, which has the same wireless capacity as the Iphone.

As the waitress brought me my first cup of coffee, I pulled out the Itouch and a pair of headphones, fired up the machine and instantly saw the network and quickly as well as easily logged into their system. You don’t know the pleasure I had when you can click on the Netflix icon and begin to view your favorite movie, television show or documentary. Let’s just consider how convenient free wireless is to consumers, and why more and more businesses should embrace providing a free wireless network for their clients.

In the picture above, you will notice a wonderful breakfast of eggs, hash browns, sausage and toast, as well as a rerun of one of my favorite childhood series, The Rat Patrol. Now, I was just relaxing, and it was fantastic to completely be immersed in a tiny little screen with high quality video, and great sound through the headphones as I eat my morning meal. If your a busy business person, finding places with free wireless is extremely important because it keep you in touch with the internet, Skype, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, many more internet social tools that help you build your business, write that on line report on the cloud, or even remotely control your home computer, and view cameras inside your home through the wireless service that is becoming very popular with restaurant and coffee shop owners.

That experience showed me that we usually don’t use technology to its fullest extent. Case in point, if you have a smartphone, and use the free wifi service like I did, you can literally run your entire business from one little device. As more cloud based computing platforms become more important and relevant, we are all going to request or demand that broadband service not be scrutinized by the major carriers and capped, such as what Rogers is planning to do. Technology needs to help people be more effective and efficient. I love it when silicone based machines allow us to get more done, expand our limitations and gives us the opportunity to communicate worldwide in a matter of seconds via texting over either the cell network, or, a free wireless hotspot where I had breakfast.

Soon, I think that smartphones will get so powerful and intelligent that we will think twice about grabbing that Ipad 2 sitting on the counter, because anything the Ipad 2 can do, your Iphone can as well. Just a slightly smaller screen, thats all.

Reflexology can be difficult to defend

I know I’m going to ruffle a few feathers here, but, its the truth. Reflexology, its origins and its new age labeling can be difficult to defend. Hey, don’t get me wrong, I have seen Reflexology in a very positive way and attain some great results, but still, it hasn’t exactly been touted by the medical community as a recognized, verifiable treatment. Some Doctors do claim that Reflexology can reduce stress simply by virtue of a nice foot massage. Well, thats better than nothing. To be taken seriously, I think that if you fragment the art and science of Reflexology with different versions, it does nothing but hurt the true concept of Reflexology.

It’s true, there are several different forms and variations of Reflexology, and because of the somewhat ‘mystical’ qualities of the practice, the good folks at the ‘skeptics dictionary’ are having a field day poking holes in the very fabric that tries to hold Reflexology together. In previous blogs, I have bantered around the idea that, while Reflexology can be a little wacky, crazy, unstable and weird at times, there is still something there that begs this question. Is Reflexology beneficial for the public, and can it be safely consumed and embraced by the majority of people? I think it can, and in future podcasts, I would be delighted to tell you why. This, of course is just a teaser to pique your curiosity. Blog at you later. Rick

What makes a happy office

OK, with the recession is full swing, isn’t it a happy time in your workplace? Oh, it’s not? Well, don’t worry, we’ve all been there a time or two. The trick is, well, I don’t think there is a trick to being happy at work. I think it takes a couple of things that need to come together in order to create a great atmosphere. Everyone has had a job they loved, and for me, it was with a company called SHL. It was the most fun I have ever had, and the people were just the best to work with and for.

The purpose of this blog is to show you (the computer user) how to insulate and protect yourself by using stretchbreak software, hardware fixes, tips and tricks for attaining your wellbeing, but we haven’t yet talked about the human environment, and how it can affect you at work. I am attempting to convince a couple of my old workmates to comes on our podcast show and get their opinion of what really makes a workplace positive, energizing and team building. Stay tuned for some podcasts in the future. I think it would allot of fun to delve into what makes a great place of work great to work at. Until then, Blog at you later. Rick and Pat
